Bridgerton

 Reader-Response Criticism:A POV about “Bridgerton”

by Nikki Yaon

I discovered Bridgerton from my co-blockmates two months ago and this series is full of drama, romance, intrigue, and has plenty of very sexy scenes. What I really love the most in this Bridgerton series is from the ballroom to each dance moves, love of cakes, displays of jewelry to the different here, those by the queen and to and especially to the beautiful women of color who played marvelous roles. And it is a very excellent work of art and beauty. It was also a beautiful scene during the royal races when devotees marked their favorite horses. The garments used have exquisite designs and craftsmanship. And oh! my goodness! Anthony and Miss Sharma's love in the series is so damn. Perhaps because both of the characters had heavy obligations their personalities may make their relationship more appealing to me. Appreciating its unique blend of historical romance, diverse casting, and engaging storyline is my positive response on this series. The diverse representation in the show has also been widely applauded as it breaks the mold of traditional period dramas and offers us, as viewers, a more inclusive portrayal of regency era society.

I enjoyed the series more than the book, which is my first time watching a classic television series. The music was really great as well. I loved it when the part of the show emphasized the "love conquers at all". First is, Penelope put her reputation on the line to save Colin from a sham of a marriage and the very best part which Daphne Bridgerton told Simon that she loved him all about him even on his perfections and also Simon can also choose to love her too. This episode allowed him to give himself to her completely, and then let go of what was holding him back. I really admire their initial dance, how everything came together- their ruse, how they walked in and how they looked at each other the entire time they danced. OH MY! The way Simon looks at Daphne at that moment.

The chemistry between the main characters such as, Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset has been celebrated for its intensity and believability, so I find them both steamy and emotionally resonant. Additionally, I appreciate the series' exploration of significant themes such as consent, communication, and female empowerment finding these elements to add depth and nuance to the story. Including the stunning costumes and set designs are the visual aspects of the series. Another aspect that I celebrated with are the strong, independent female characters. The Bridgerton sisters, as well as the other female characters are depicted as intelligent, empowered, and actively pursuing their own desires and ambitions. This has resonated with me who I appreciate seeing the complex and relatable women at the forefront of the series.

In season 2, the love was crazy and had less sex scenes which was a brilliant idea! It made me enjoy the series all the more! Ever since they first laid eyes on each other, Anthony Bridgerton and formidable newcomer Kate Sharma have shared such overwhelming sexual tension but I really shocked the differences in this season however, is that both Anthony and Kate are eldest child are so completely committed to sacrificing everything for their families that they refuse to admit what they themselves actually want until it's almost too late

I can see myself both of them by taking a lot of duties and responsibility as the eldest child hoping not to fall out of all the circumstances. In every episode, Anthony and Kate grow, their feelings for each other become more apparent. What I really love is the memorable line from Anthony whispering to Kate is that "You are the bane of my existence, and the object of all my desires", after he finds himself unable to free himself from her.

Bridgerton is in this season and also has a very special place in my heart, it's because of showing many siblings' relationships, especially the sisterly bond of Kate and Edwina. Their bond is one of the most beautiful aspects of the show that I also wish to experience in my personal life because it's like it's refreshing to see them bond and help each other become the women they are. But there is an ultimate test for the both of them as I go deep down understand the series, as what I remember Kate finds herself in a complex situation wherein she fall for the man of her dreams but it is also the becoming man of her sister Edwina so as she watches her younger sister, she cannot imagine breaking Edwina's heart. So, it's really not just easy to put in this kind of situation having a trauma as to deal with Kate alone. I really appreciate Lady Mary in this part, who raised Kate as her child when Kate's mother passed away. She gives all of her unconditional love to both of them and thinks of Kate as her own child. And even though in the end of the series, Anthony and Kate are devoted to their families, the duty of their upholding the legacy and responsibilities is too much for them to bear alone. In the whole of this series, I can see and always remember some of the couple monologues that remind me of the beauty of Shondaland.

One of them is about Benedict, he is the group's artist, and as such, he is capable of romanticizing the arts--painting, music, and poetry. While Anthony may express love through acts of service and Daphne values quality time with her family, Benedict values Words of Affirmation as his Love Language. He defends the art of poetry as a result of this.

"Poetry is the art of revealing precious truth with words." by Benedict Bridgerton

Violet's short speech at the Hastings ball (S1E8), right after Daphne told her she and Simon were splitting up, is one of my favorites also. Violet's reminiscence about Edmund, just before she tells Daphne, "You are a Bridgerton, there's nothing you cannot do," always makes me cry. This was a love that was both treasured and lost, and Violet's voice breaking at the end was simply masterful acting.
